BAN ALL RELIGION
October 28th 2006 21:47
Well banning it would be no better than allowing it really. I just wish people didnt need false hopes, that they trusted themselves. You shouldnt need the threat of hell to be a good person. Those who are religious can you not see how and why all forms of relegion were created?? Please you cannot be that blind..can you? I have heard so many people say "im not sure if their is a god, but im going to believe anyway just in case"...WTF lol
Its just so sad that religion rules our world, that it fuels war and promotes such hatred.

I am writing a theology paper right now to answer the question as to whether it is practical to believe in a personal, loving God, to which my answer is that it is as reasonable to believe there is one as to believe there isn't one.
The truth is that NONE of us know. If you pretend to have an answer to this question, that man has spent centuries to answer without definitive success in answering, then you are quite a special person, in your own mind, aren't you? (meaning the collective group, not you personally for posting this.)
There are some things we do not know...that we will not know until we are departed from this earth. That is the reality. I suppose it could also be said, however, why must some people feel compelled to strip people of their hope, if their hope is based in faith? What is wrong with it? Do you also go around telling small children there is no Santa? Not that to believe in God, you must be childish, but you certainly must be childlike in your belief, according to the Christian religion.
ust my two cents worth...for what its worth, which may be about two cents. *smile*

Im not stripping people of hope, i think people who blindly follow religion are like junkies and have done all the damage themselves.
You say "What is wrong with it? Do you also go around telling small children there is no Santa? Not that to believe in God, you must be childish, but you certainly must be childlike in your belief, according to the Christian religion."
I think its wrong, i think it is negative to betray people, religion is about ruling through fear, that is just one of the things wrong with it. How am i childish for not believing in a god? Please explain. Childlike? Up until this last paragraph i fell you made fair and valid points, but you undid all the great work you started. Maybe i interpreted this part incorrectly?
In the end people will believe what they will, i personally think that until we see WE are responsable and not some god, that until WE see this is the world we live in and that a better one does not await us on the "other" side we will continue to slide into chaos. Im willing to burn if i am wrong, but as you would suspect from above i dont believe that will happen.
ps thanx for taking the time to put in your 2cents worth, its what this blog thing is all about IMO people expressing themselves. So Cheers

"Do you also go around telling small children there is no Santa? Not that to believe in God, you must be childish, but you certainly must be childlike in your belief, according to the Christian religion."
I wasn't referring to nonbelievers at all on this particular comment...I was referring to believers and the biblical belief that you must have the faith of a small child (be childlike) in order to accept Christ.
I am sorry I didn't make that more clear and thank you for pointing that out.
Also, if I may, I think we are not far off on this topic as it may appear...this is an exerpt from my theology paper...I promise not to take up all your time with it...
"Queen Elizabeth I once said to her Parliament, “It is monstrous that the feet should direct the head.” Although this quote was most likely in matters of politics, it is appropriate for matters of religion, as well. In coming to a personal decision on the existence of God, one must question everything and believe nothing until such a time that an individual comes to know God as either a reality or a myth in their own mind. In a matter this important, in terms of impact on one’s life and choices, it is far better to ask questions than to simply follow the crowd."
You said, you know in your soul you are right...why do you believe in a soul and not a god? What would be the point of one without the other?

I was just giving you a hard time about the soul. I knew what you meant. You will learn that about me. I like to be a smartass...*shrug*
As for the paper, my Theology professor would also like to read more of it. :c) I will send it via private message. It is not done or in particular order at this point but you will get where I am heading with it.
Thanks,
